What Is Your Bottle a Dupe Of? The A–Z Reverse Lookup

Almost every dupe guide is written backwards. They start with the expensive bottle — "the best Aventus clones", "cheap Baccarat Rouge alternatives" — which is useful right up until the moment you already own the cheap bottle and have no idea what it was chasing.

Because clone houses rarely tell you — naming the original is the one thing they legally cannot do. A few are obvious: Fragrance World Barakkat Rouge 540 is not hiding anything. Most are not. Lattafa Asad, Maison Alhambra Minerale, Rasasi Hawas Thunder, Bujairami Hectic — nothing in those names points anywhere. You bought it because someone said it was good, and now it sits on your shelf as a mystery.

So this page runs the lookup in the other direction. Find the bottle you own on the left, and the fragrance it is copying is on the right. 330 pairs, across 67 clone houses, matched to 176 originals.

One thing worth saying up front, because it is the difference between this list and most others: none of these pairings come from us comparing ingredient lists. Every single one comes from somebody who owned both bottles and compared them on skin. We tried the ingredient-matching approach once and deleted the results — a composition score cannot tell a real dupe from a coincidence, and it was confidently pairing fragrances that smell nothing alike.

Every fragrance in the right-hand column links to its own page, where you will find every other dupe we have found for it, and what each one gets right and wrong. If the bottle you own turns out to be a middling match, that page is where you will find the better one.

What the list shows before you search it

330 pairings across 67 clone houses, pointing at 176 originals. That averages under two clones per original, but the average is misleading — the distribution is heavily lopsided, and a handful of fragrances absorb a disproportionate share of the industry's attention.

The surprise there is at the top. Louis Vuitton Imagination, a 2021 release, has been cloned more than Creed Aventus — which has been the industry's default target for over a decade. The reason is distribution rather than popularity. Louis Vuitton sells fragrance only through its own boutiques, never discounters, and never in decant-friendly channels. There is no grey market and no way to get it cheaply, so the gap a clone fills is wider than for a fragrance you can find discounted online. Two of the six most-cloned originals are Louis Vuitton for exactly that reason.

Six houses account for roughly half the list. Lattafa's 39 entries are worth reading carefully, though: the house holds close to 200 fragrances in our data, so those 39 represent a small minority of what it makes. Its reputation as a dupe brand rests on a fraction of its catalogue, and that is a real difference between it and Maison Alhambra, whose fame rests almost entirely on reproductions.

What the agreement column means

It is not a similarity percentage, and it is deliberately not a number. It describes how consistently people who have smelled both name the pairing.

• Widely agreed — wearers name this pairing consistently and with little argument.
• Commonly named — the pairing comes up regularly, but it is not unanimous, and some people hear something else.
• Debated — the link is real enough to record, but opinion genuinely splits. Treat these as a lead rather than a verdict.

Across the full list the split is 121 widely agreed, 167 commonly named, and 42 debated. Only about a third of the pairings on this page are ones people name without argument, and that is worth sitting with before you treat any single row as settled. The middle band is the honest majority: real pairings, consistently reported, but with enough disagreement that your own nose may land somewhere else.

A "debated" rating is not a judgement on quality. Plenty of debated dupes are excellent fragrances — they just do not smell as close to the target as their reputation suggests.

If your bottle is not here

That almost certainly does not mean you own something original. It means nobody has published a first-hand side-by-side we could verify, so we left it out rather than guess.

This list only grows one way: somebody buys both bottles, wears them, and writes up the comparison. That is slow, and it is why 330 is a smaller number than the lists you will find elsewhere. The larger lists are mostly generated by matching note pyramids, which is exactly the method we threw out.
