Fragrance World: Every Clone Identified

Fragrance World is the third-largest clone house we track — 29 documented dupes, behind only Maison Alhambra and Lattafa — and unlike those two, nobody has written a proper guide to them. They are the biggest gap in the hobby's coverage.

If you came for the simpler question — is Fragrance World a dupe brand at all — that has a shorter answer, and one honest limit on what we can tell you.

They are also the hardest house to shop, because their names are deliberately obtuse. Lattafa and Maison Alhambra usually give you a hint. Fragrance World gives you Renheit, Abraaj Viking and Deux Cent Douze VIP Black and lets you work it out.

How to read a Fragrance World name

Once you see the system it stops being random. They are threading a legal needle: a fragrance's smell cannot be protected, but its name and branding can. So the name has to be near enough to trigger recognition and far enough to be a different trademark.

  • Phonetic shaving. Dior Fahrenheit becomes Renheit. Baccarat Rouge becomes Barakkat Rouge.
  • Translation. Carolina Herrera 212 becomes Deux Cent Douze — literally "two hundred and twelve" in French.
  • Initials rearranged. Viktor & Rolf becomes Mark & Victor. YSL's Y Le Parfum becomes F Le Parfum.
  • Theme translation. Versace Eros — the Greek god of desire — becomes Des Tentations, "of temptations".

And then, bafflingly, sometimes they do not bother at all. Their Parfums de Marly Sedley clone is called Sedley. Their Carlisle clone is called Carlisle. Same name, no changes — which is a trademark problem rather than a counterfeit one, but a real one, and we cover where that line actually sits.

One more quirk worth knowing: B Satin Oud and Barakkat Satin Oud are the same juice, renamed for trademark reasons. If you find both, you are not choosing between two products.

The Barakkat line is their best work

Barakkat is effectively their Maison Francis Kurkdjian division, and it is where the house earns its reputation.

Barakkat Satin OudOud Satin Mood. The standout. Someone who owns the real thing calls it scarily close — close enough that he now considers the original a rip-off.

Barakkat Ambre EveGrand Soir. Widely called a dead ringer, and very sweet with it — dessert level. Several people prefer it at half the price of the alternatives.

Barakkat Gentle GoldGentle Fluidity Gold. Eighty percent in the opening and effectively the same scent by fifteen minutes. Sweeter and more vanillic than the original's airier juniper. It wins outright on staying power — Gentle Fluidity fades around four hours and this does not.

Barakkat Rouge 540 → aimed at the Extrait, not standard BR540, and sweeter than both. The most famous bottle they make and, by our data, the weakest of the Barakkat four. Buy it because you like it, not because it is the closest.

Parfums de Marly is their most-targeted house

Five separate attempts, more than at any other brand.

  • SedleySedley. A little less intense, six to seven hours. One of their most reliable.
  • CarlisleCarlisle. About 95% the same, strong projection, long wear.
  • AnaqeedLayton Exclusif. Documented but thinly reviewed.
  • HartnellHaltane. Pushes the oud harder, less sweet.
  • MidoriGreenley. The one to skip — smells cheaper and fades much faster.

The designer clones

Jack of ClubsLa Nuit de L'Homme Bleu Electrique. Better longevity than the original and stays on clothes longer — a rare outright win.

Proud of You AbsoluteStronger With You Absolutely. Sits about halfway between Intensely and Absolutely rather than matching either exactly, and gets very close on scent. Performance is the catch — often under two hours.

Abraaj VikingCreed Viking. Owners with both put it at 90–95%. Louder and rougher in the opening, then it settles onto the same track after half an hour, and it outlasts the Creed.

RenheitDior Fahrenheit. About eight tenths there. Rough for the first ten minutes, then improves sharply. Useful detail: the gold cap is the Le Parfum clone, silver is the EDT.

Music FestReplica Jazz Club. Around 75–80% — not one-to-one, but it lands the boozy tobacco people buy Jazz Club for, and comes across stronger and more cognac-heavy.

Posh OmegaLe Male Essence de Parfum. Worth flagging because the original is discontinued — this is one of the few remaining ways to get that scent. One buyer picked it up immediately after finishing his bottle of the real thing.

Cocktail IntenseAngels' Share. Slightly lighter, six to eight hours.

Oud WonderOud Wood. Sweeter and less spicy, with less depth and a rougher finish.

Neroli RivieraNeroli Portofino. Side by side with Maison Alhambra's Porto Neroli this is the more balanced of the two, with the citrus sitting better under the neroli.

French PortraitPortrait of a Lady. Rated the strongest of the Portrait clones, and it layers well with the original.

L'InfiniteL'Immensité. Better blended than the far better-known Jean Lowe Immortel, which pushes more ginger. Underused rather than worse.

What to avoid

Mark & Victor Eau de Spice ExtremeSpicebomb Extreme. The mapping is right and the execution is not: next to the real thing it reads watered down, far less spicy, barely projects, and is gone in three or four hours. Their other Spicebomb attempt, Nuke 2.0, is the better bottle — slightly less spicy, six to eight hours.

Midori, as above. Blue MagicianBlue Talisman is barely reviewed and hard to buy outside the US. Riche & Royale IntenseD&G K fades after about four hours.

The verdict

Fragrance World's hit rate is 31% — nine of their 29 dupes land in the top band. That puts them level with Lattafa and below Maison Alhambra at 48% or French Avenue at 67%.

The number is fair but it hides the shape of the house. Their Barakkat line is genuinely excellent and would score far higher on its own; the wider catalogue drags the average down. They are a volume house that happens to run one very good division.

Buy the Barakkats — Satin Oud first. Treat the rest case by case, and check the page for whatever you are actually chasing, because on several of these targets another house does it better.
