Maison Francis Kurkdjian: Every MFK Fragrance Ranked and Reviewed

Who Is Francis Kurkdjian?

Francis Kurkdjian is one of the most respected noses in modern perfumery — and the most cloned. Baccarat Rouge 540, Grand Soir, Oud Satin Mood and Gentle Fluidity all have documented alternatives, several of which outlast the originals. He created Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male when he was just 25 years old — a fragrance that has sold billions of dollars worldwide. In 2009, he launched his own house, Maison Francis Kurkdjian (MFK), which was acquired by LVMH in 2017. That acquisition put MFK fragrances in every high-end department store globally.

With 61 fragrances in our database, MFK maintains a curated catalog where every release feels intentional. Their ratings range from 4.5 to 8.8, with the average sitting around 7.3/10 — which is pulled down by some less-loved flankers and limited editions.

Baccarat Rouge 540: The Phenomenon

Maison Francis Kurkdjian Baccarat Rouge 540

Baccarat Rouge 540 (8.1/10) is arguably the most influential fragrance of the 2010s. When it launched in 2015, it created an entirely new scent category — the amber-crystal genre. Saffron, ambergris, cedar, and a distinctive burnt sugar quality that smells like nothing else.

The problem with BR540 in 2026 is ubiquity. Everyone wears it. Every ride-share, every hotel lobby, every social gathering has at least one person trailing that distinctive sweet-amber cloud. It is still a beautiful fragrance, but the "wow, what are you wearing?" factor has diminished significantly.

The clone market for BR540 is massive. Al Haramain Amber Oud Rouge (8.9/10) is the most popular alternative and actually rates higher than the original in our database. Other options include Lattafa Ana Abiyedh Rouge and numerous other takes from Middle Eastern houses.

Baccarat Rouge 540 Extrait de Parfum unisex

Baccarat Rouge 540 Extrait (7.8/10) cranks up the amber and adds a bitter almond note. It is denser, darker, and projects more aggressively. Some prefer it to the EDP, others find it too heavy. Worth sampling if you love the original but want more intensity.

The Best of MFK (8.3+)

Amyris Homme Extrait de Parfum for men

Amyris Homme Extrait (8.8/10) is the highest-rated MFK in our database and one of the most criminally underrated fragrances in niche perfumery. Smoky amyris wood, iris, and tonka bean create a refined, elegant scent that lasts forever. If you only buy one MFK that is not BR540, make it this one.

Le Beau Parfum for women

Le Beau Parfum (8.7/10) is a big white floral — bergamot, cinnamon and lily up top, Egyptian jasmine, jasmine and orange blossom filling the middle, then amber, musk and patchouli. The cinnamon is unusual and stops it turning generic. Long lasting with strong projection.

Maison Francis Kurkdjian Aqua Celestia Forte

Aqua Celestia Forte (8.6/10) is one of the best fresh fragrances on the market. Lime, blackcurrant, and a subtle musky base. Clean, transparent, and perfect for warm weather.

Cologne Pour Le Soir unisex

Cologne pour le Soir (8.4/10) defies the cologne convention by being warm, musky, and incense-heavy. A cologne that works at night — exactly as the name promises.

The Core Lineup (7.5 - 8.2)

Maison Francis Kurkdjian Grand Soir

Grand Soir (8.2/10) is MFK's amber masterpiece. Amber, benzoin, and vanilla in a smooth, rich composition that feels like liquid gold. It is the ultimate cold-weather comfort scent — warm, enveloping, and long-lasting. Less bombastic than BR540, more refined and intimate.

Maison Francis Kurkdjian Gentle Fluidity Gold

Gentle Fluidity Gold (8.2/10) is a warm, boozy amber with vanilla and juniper. It has a gentle sweetness that is never cloying. Works across seasons and genders.

Maison Francis Kurkdjian Masculin Pluriel

Masculin Pluriel (8.1/10) is a lavender-fougere that feels classic and modern simultaneously. Kurkdjian revisiting the genre he mastered with Le Male, but with more sophistication and depth.

Maison Francis Kurkdjian Aqua Vitae

Aqua Vitae (8.3/10) is a sparkling mandarin and lime composition. Fresh, clean, and unmistakably MFK in its elegance.

L'Eau A La Rose (8.1/10) is a modern rose that avoids every rose cliche. Light, dewy, and feminine without being powdery.

Maison Francis Kurkdjian Gentle Fluidity Silver

Gentle Fluidity Silver (7.9/10) is the cooler half of the pair: juniper berries, nutmeg, bergamot and a flash of pineapple over coriander, closing on musk, woods and cedar. Clean and transparent, and genuinely office-safe. Long lasting with moderate projection.

Maison Francis Kurkdjian A La Rose

À la Rose (7.8/10) is bergamot and orange into Bulgarian rose, Grasse rose and violet, over musk and cedar. Fuller and more classically rosy than L'Eau à la Rose, though still bright rather than heavy. Moderate longevity and projection.

The Oud Collection

MFK's oud fragrances are some of the most approachable oud scents on the market:

Maison Francis Kurkdjian Oud Satin Mood

Oud Satin Mood (7.1/10) combines oud with rose, vanilla, and benzoin. It is sweet, warm, and far more wearable than most oud fragrances. The Extrait version (8.0/10) is richer and more complex.

Maison Francis Kurkdjian Oud

Oud (7.7/10) is the traditional one in the lineup — saffron up top, elemi, patchouli and more saffron in the middle, then cedar, elemi and oud. Resinous and dry rather than sweetened. Long lasting with strong projection, and the most demanding thing MFK makes.

Maison Francis Kurkdjian Oud Silk Mood

Oud Silk Mood (7.0/10) softens the oud with Bulgarian rose, chamomile and bergamot, then guaiac wood and hedione, landing on oud and papyrus. Powdery and rose-led, and the papyrus gives it a dry, papery finish some people dislike. Long lasting with strong projection.

Skip These

724 (5.0/10) was one of MFK's most hyped releases and one of the most disappointing. Marketed as the scent of a Parisian morning, it smells generic and fleeting. At $300, it is poor value even by MFK standards.

754 (4.5/10) is the lowest-rated MFK in our database. A flanker of 724 that somehow manages to be even less interesting.

L'Homme A La Rose (4.9/10) takes the men's rose concept and makes it feel thin and synthetic. The women's rose offerings are significantly better.

MFK vs The Clones

The clone market for MFK is dominated by Baccarat Rouge alternatives, but a few other MFK scents have attracted clones too. For Grand Soir, some houses offer amber-benzoin compositions that get close. For Oud Satin Mood, Lattafa Raghba offers a sweet oud experience in a similar vein.

Buying Strategy

Entry point: Gentle Fluidity Gold or Aqua Celestia Forte — both are versatile and showcase MFK's craftsmanship.

Best value: Grand Soir — less cloned than BR540, so you will actually stand out wearing it.

Hidden gem: Amyris Homme Extrait — the highest-rated MFK that nobody talks about.

Skip: 724, 754, and most of the limited editions — they rarely justify the premium over the core line.

The Bottom Line

MFK is one of the most polished fragrance houses in the world. Francis Kurkdjian's talent is undeniable — even his misses smell professionally crafted. The core lineup is strong, with Baccarat Rouge 540 and Grand Soir being modern classics. The main criticism is the price — MFK charges niche prices and keeps raising them. But if you can stomach $200-$350 per bottle, you are getting some of the best-composed fragrances money can buy.
