About Tonkava

Tonkava answers one question: if you like an expensive fragrance, what cheaper bottle actually smells like it?

That question has plenty of answers online already. Most of them are worthless. Search any popular perfume and you will find tidy tables of clones with confident percentages next to them, and no indication that anyone involved has ever smelled either bottle. Some of those lists name products that do not exist.

How a clone gets published here

A pairing goes on the site only when someone who has smelled both bottles says they smell alike. Not a press release, not a shop’s “inspired by” label, not an AI summary of other people’s lists. A first-hand comparison from a person who owned both.

Most of that evidence comes from fragrance communities where people buy the clone, wear it next to the original, and report back — often unfavourably. Where a comparison came from a public discussion, the entry links to it, so you can read the argument yourself rather than take our word for it. Where reviewers disagree, the page says so instead of averaging the disagreement into a tidy number.

The consequence is that Tonkava is smaller than it could be. Plenty of well-known fragrances have no dupe listed here, because we looked and could not find a credible one. Those gaps are deliberate. A directory that answers every question is a directory that is guessing.

What is here

Who runs it

Muntaseer Rahman, who writes and runs Tonkava

Tonkava is built and written by Muntaseer Rahman, independently. There is no team, no parent company, and no brand paying for placement. If a clone is listed as close to the original, that is because the evidence said so, and if it is listed as a poor match the page says that too.

Corrections are genuinely welcome — if a pairing here is wrong, or a bottle image is the wrong flanker, tell us and it gets fixed. The contact page has a form for submitting a dupe you have compared yourself, and an email address if you would rather write.

How it pays for itself

Some links to retailers are affiliate links, which means Tonkava earns a small commission if you buy through them. It costs you nothing extra, and it does not decide what gets listed. A clone does not appear on this site because it is easy to earn from, and originals with no buy link at all are covered the same as ones that pay.
