Black Saffron is a unisex leather saffron EDP from Byredo, released in 2012. It's one of the brand's most successful releases — saffron, juniper, and grapefruit create an unusual metallic-fresh opening, leather and violet build a sophisticated heart, and raspberry and cashmeran give the base a sweet, woody, slightly unexpected finish.
Saffron, juniper berries, and Chinese grapefruit open together. The saffron is metallic and warm, the juniper adds a fresh, slightly resinous pine-berry quality, and the grapefruit gives a sharp citrus edge. A distinctive, complex opening.
Leather and violet form the heart. The leather is dry and slightly animalic, and the violet adds a powdery, cool floral quality. The combination is unexpected and works beautifully — the violet gives the leather a surprising softness.
Raspberry, cashmeran, and vetiver close the fragrance. The raspberry adds a sweet, slightly jammy fruitiness that contrasts with the leather. Cashmeran is warm and woody, and vetiver adds dry earthy depth. The base is surprisingly sweet for a leather fragrance.
Good year-round. One of Byredo's most versatile releases — works for both day and evening wear.
