Nasomatto Black Afgano is the fragrance that made a whole genre. Released in 2009 by Alessandro Gualtieri, it is a dense, resinous, almost tarry scent built around oud, dark wood resins and a green note most people read as hashish. There is coffee in there too, and incense, and something faintly sweet underneath the smoke.
It does not open and evolve the way most fragrances do. It arrives fully formed, nearly black, and stays that way for hours. That is the point. Gualtieri was not trying to make something pretty or wearable in the usual sense.
