What Is Parfums de Marly?
Parfums de Marly is a French niche house founded in 2009 by Julien Sprecher. It is also among the most heavily cloned houses we track — and one of the few where a clone house has sold bottles under the original's exact product name. The brand takes its inspiration from the court of Louis XV at the Chateau de Marly, and the packaging matches — ornate bottles with horse-head caps that look impressive on any shelf. They sit in the $200-$350 price range, which places them squarely between designer and ultra-niche.
With 42 fragrances, PdM keeps a relatively tight catalog compared to houses like Creed or Tom Ford. Their average rating is around 8.0/10, and the quality is remarkably consistent — there are very few true misses in the lineup.
The Big Three: Layton, Pegasus, Delina
These three fragrances account for the vast majority of PdM sales, and for good reason.

Layton (8.0/10) is the crowd-pleasing king of the lineup. Apple, lavender, vanilla, and cardamom create a warm, inviting scent that works in almost any situation. It is the kind of fragrance that gets compliments from everyone — coworkers, dates, strangers in elevators. The only downside is how common it has become. If you attend any fragrance event, half the room is wearing Layton.

Pegasus (7.9/10) is the almond-vanilla fragrance that launched a thousand clones. Bitter almond, vanilla, and heliotrope create a sweet, creamy scent that leans masculine but works for anyone. It is comforting, cozy, and projects like a beast. Al Haramain Portfolio Royale Stallion is a solid alternative at a fraction of the price.

Delina (8.2/10) is the feminine standout of the house. Turkish rose, lychee, peony, and vanilla. It manages to be both fresh and sweet, youthful and sophisticated. The rose is bright without being old-fashioned, and the fruity top notes keep it modern. Al Haramain Blanche French Collection captures some of this DNA at a lower price.
The Top Tier (8.2 - 8.5)

Galloway (8.5/10) is the highest-rated PdM in our database and one of the most underrated. A citrus-hesperidic composition with orange blossom and white musk. It is the freshest thing in the lineup and perfect for warm weather. Not the typical PdM power-house style, which might be why it gets overlooked.

Carlisle (8.3/10) is the thinking person's PdM. Apple, vanilla, and oud create something warmer and more complex than Layton. If Layton is the safe date-night choice, Carlisle is what you wear when you want to leave an impression.

Oajan (8.3/10) is the spice bomb of the lineup. Cinnamon, benzoin, and honey in a rich, warm, oriental composition. This is fall and winter only — wearing Oajan in July would be oppressive. But on a cold evening, it is stunning.

Delina La Rosee (8.3/10) is the fresher, lighter take on Delina. More pear and litchi, less vanilla. Many actually prefer this to the original Delina for daily wear.
The Solid Middle (7.8 - 8.1)

Percival (8.1/10) is PdM's answer to the fresh-clean genre. Lavender, lime, and musk in a crisp, office-appropriate package. It is the most "designer-feeling" PdM, which is either a compliment or a criticism depending on your perspective.

Pegasus Exclusif (8.1/10) dials up the sweetness and warmth of the original Pegasus. More vanilla, more amber, more projection. Al Haramain Detour Noir Intense offers a similar experience at a budget price.

Kalan (8.1/10) is a spicy-amber that feels masculine and mature. Ginger, incense, and benzoin create a warm, resinous scent that works beautifully in cooler weather.

Layton Exclusif (8.0/10) takes Layton darker with more oud and amber. It is richer but less versatile. If you already own Layton and want something for evening wear, this fills that gap. Al Haramain Detour Noir Exclusif targets this specific scent.

Oriana (8.0/10) is mandarin, bergamot and grapefruit into orange blossom, raspberry and blackcurrant, over whipped cream, marshmallow and musk. Sweet enough to divide a room, and hugely popular on social media. Moderate longevity and projection, which is a real weakness at PdM prices.

Godolphin (8.0/10) is PdM's leather fragrance. Smoky, resinous, and dark with iris and saffron. It is one of their more challenging compositions but rewarding for leather lovers.

Herod (7.8/10) is tobacco, cinnamon, and vanilla. It is in the same family as Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille but takes a spicier, less gourmand approach. Good but gets lost in a crowded tobacco category.

Haltane (7.8/10) is oud, rose, and incense. A darker, smokier offering that shows PdM can do Middle Eastern-influenced scents convincingly. Al Haramain Detour Eco is the budget pick here and actually rates higher at 8.6/10.
The Women's Lineup
Beyond Delina and its flankers, PdM has several women's options worth noting:

Valaya (8.1/10) opens on aldehydes, white peach and bergamot before orange blossom and lily of the valley take over, closing on musk, ambroxan and akigalawood. The aldehydes give it a soapy, clean-laundry lift. Long lasting with strong projection — one of the better performers in the women's line.

Athalia (8.1/10) is not the green floral it is usually called: orange blossom into iris, over white musk and amber, and little else. It is a powdery iris scent, quiet and slightly cold. Long lasting with moderate projection.

Cassili (8.0/10) is red currant and Bulgarian rose into frangipani and plum, over vanilla, tonka and sandalwood. It is often recommended to people who find Delina too sweet, but the gourmand base makes it comparably rich — just fruitier and less rosy. Moderate longevity and projection.

Meliora (7.9/10) is blackcurrant and red berries into rose, lily of the valley and ylang-ylang, over musk and vanilla. Bright and cheerful, but nothing in it is unusual. Moderate longevity and projection, and the cheapest entry in the line.

Delina Exclusif (7.6/10) goes darker and more oud-heavy than the original. Ironically rates lower — the charm of Delina is in its lightness, and the Exclusif loses some of that.
The Clone Target List
PdM is one of the most cloned brands in the fragrance world. Al Haramain alone has an entire Detour collection targeting PdM scents:
- Detour Noir → Layton
- Detour Noir Exclusif → Layton Exclusif
- Detour Noir Intense → Pegasus Exclusif
- Detour Eco → Haltane
- Detour Rouge → Kalan
- Portfolio Royale Stallion → Pegasus
Where to Start
First PdM ever: Layton — it is a crowd-pleaser for a reason.
Want something less common: Carlisle or Galloway.
For women: Delina or Delina La Rosee.
On a budget: Try Al Haramain's Detour line first. If you love the DNA, the original PdM is worth the upgrade.
The Bottom Line
Parfums de Marly occupies a sweet spot in the fragrance market. They are more interesting than most designers but more accessible than ultra-niche houses. The quality is consistent, the presentations are luxurious, and fragrances like Layton and Delina have earned their popularity. The main criticism is that PdM plays it safe — there is nothing truly challenging or avant-garde in the lineup. But if you want reliably excellent, crowd-pleasing fragrances in beautiful bottles, PdM delivers.
