Who Is Al Haramain?
Al Haramain Perfumes is one of the oldest fragrance houses in the Middle East, founded in 1970 in the United Arab Emirates — one of 59 Middle Eastern brands we track, against 64 designer houses. What started as a traditional Arabian attar and oil house has evolved into a global fragrance brand with over 130 perfumes in their lineup. They are known for two things: rich, oud-heavy compositions rooted in Middle Eastern tradition, and surprisingly accurate alternatives to expensive Western designers.
With an average rating around 8.1 out of 10 across their catalog, Al Haramain consistently delivers quality that punches well above their price point. Their fragrances typically retail between $20 and $60, making them one of the best value propositions in the fragrance world.
The Amber Oud Empire
The Amber Oud line is Al Haramain's crown jewel. It is a sprawling collection that covers everything from Baccarat Rouge clones to tobacco blends and fresh green scents. Here are the standouts:

Al Haramain Amber Oud Rouge is the one that put Al Haramain on the mainstream fragrance map. It is their take on Baccarat Rouge 540, and it is genuinely good. The saffron and amberwood combo is rich and sweet without being cloying. At around $30-40, it offers roughly 90% of the BR540 experience at a fraction of the cost. Rated 8.9/10.

Amber Oud Carbon Edition takes the line in a completely different direction. This one is inspired by Creed Green Irish Tweed — fresh, green, and sophisticated. It is one of their best warm-weather options and sits at 8.5/10.

Amber Oud Tobacco Edition goes after Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille. It is sweeter and less complex than the original, but the tobacco-vanilla blend is cozy and wearable. A solid cold-weather pick at 7.6/10.

Amber Oud Black Edition (8.1/10) is aimed at Penhaligon's Tragedy of Lord George, though it is drier than the boozy original — cardamom and lavender open it, leather, amber and tonka fill the middle, and vetiver, ambergris and benzoin close. Long lasting with strong projection despite being a cologne concentration.

Amber Oud Exclusif Emerald is inspired by Xerjoff Erba Pura and captures that bright, fruity-amber DNA surprisingly well. One of the newer additions at 8.3/10.

Amber Oud Exclusif Bleu (7.7/10) is sold as a Layton alternative, but the notes tell a different story: grapefruit, lemon, mint and pink pepper into ginger and jasmine, then olibanum, sandalwood and patchouli. There is no apple and no vanilla — it smells far closer to Bleu de Chanel. Moderate longevity and projection, and the most expensive miss in the line.

Amber Oud Ruby (7.8/10) goes for the extrait version of BR540 and lands close: saffron and bitter almond up top, Egyptian jasmine and cedar in the middle, ambergris, woods and musk at the base. A little more leathery than the MFK. Long lasting with strong projection.

Amber Oud Ultra Violet (8.4/10) is their L'Interdit Rouge — ginger, rose and bergamot into a big tuberose and jasmine heart, then oak, patchouli and musk. Heavier and rosier than the Givenchy. Long lasting with strong projection; a cold-weather evening scent.

Amber Oud Gold 999.9 (8.2/10) takes Erba Pura somewhere sweeter: orange, pear, bergamot and lemon up top, then caramel and melon, finishing on amber, vanilla and patchouli. The caramel makes it heavier than the Xerjoff and better suited to cold weather. Long lasting with strong projection.
The L'Aventure Series
If Amber Oud is Al Haramain's luxury line, L'Aventure is their mainstream crowd-pleaser. The original L'Aventure is one of the most well-known Creed Aventus alternatives on the market. It captures the pineapple-birch-musk DNA reasonably well, though it leans sweeter and less smoky than the original. Rated 8.1/10.

L'Aventure Intense dials up the darkness and smokiness. Many actually prefer this to the original L'Aventure — it feels more premium and lasts longer. Rated 8.5/10.

L'Aventure Femme (8.1/10) answers Aventus For Her with pineapple, blackcurrant, bergamot and wild berries over cedar, freesia and rose, closing on musk, sandalwood and amber. Fruitier and sweeter than the Creed, which has apple in its place. Long lasting with strong projection.

L'Aventure Blanche (7.2/10) borrows from Silver Mountain Water but adds a floral middle the Creed does not have — lemon, bergamot, lavender and rose into blackcurrant, jasmine and orris, then sandalwood and amber. Prettier, less green, and the weakest-rated of the L'Aventure line. Long lasting with strong projection.

L'Aventure Knight is inspired by Creed Green Irish Tweed. A green-fresh-woody scent that works year-round at 8.0/10.
Other notable L'Aventure flankers include L'Aventure Iris (8.3/10), L'Aventure Fraiche (8.2/10), L'Aventure Grapefruit (7.8/10), and L'Aventure Ciel (8.0/10).
The Detour Collection
The Detour line is Al Haramain's love letter to Parfums de Marly. Nearly every fragrance in this collection targets a specific PdM scent.

Detour Eco (8.6/10) is one of Al Haramain's best: lavender, bergamot and clary sage into saffron and praline, then oud and cedar. It tracks PdM Haltane almost note for note and the sweetness is well judged. Long lasting with strong projection.

Detour Noir (8.2/10) has the Layton DNA intact — apple, jasmine, lavender and violet up top, vanilla, bergamot and patchouli in the middle, sandalwood, cardamom and guaiac wood underneath. Slightly more floral than the PdM. Long lasting with strong projection.

Detour Noir Exclusif (8.4/10) takes on Layton Exclusif: almond, mandarin and bergamot over civet, geranium and rose, then Laotian oud, vanilla and guaiac wood. Everything the original has except the coffee note in the base. Long lasting with strong projection.

Detour Noir Intense (8.5/10) is the Pegasus Exclusif angle — cardamom, heliotrope and pink pepper into lavender, bitter almond and jasmine, then oud, vanilla and amber. Oud sits further forward here than in the PdM. Long lasting with strong projection.

Detour Rouge (7.8/10) chases PdM Kalan but comes out softer: lavender, cardamom and bergamot into black tea, tobacco and violet, then musk, tonka and cedar. Powdery rather than spicy. Long lasting with moderate projection.
The Portfolio Collection
The Portfolio line is where Al Haramain gets more creative and niche-leaning. These are generally their most interesting compositions.

Portfolio Neroli Canvas (8.9/10) is the highest-rated thing Al Haramain makes and a proper Neroli Portofino alternative — bergamot, lemon and petitgrain into neroli and orange blossom, then musk, amber and cedar. It also lasts considerably longer than the Tom Ford, which is that fragrance's main weakness. Strong projection.

Portfolio Royale Stallion (8.6/10) is Pegasus almost exactly: heliotrope, cumin and bergamot up top, bitter almond, lavender and jasmine in the middle, vanilla, sandalwood and amber at the base. Almondy and powdery, and it holds up next to the original. Long lasting with strong projection.

Portfolio Floral Sculpture (8.5/10) tackles Portrait of a Lady and softens it — carnation, peony and bergamot lead, patchouli and rose fill the middle, amber, ambergris and musk close. Less incense and raspberry than the Malle, so it is easier to wear. Long lasting with strong projection.

Portfolio Cupid's Rose draws from Penhaligon's Halfeti. Dark, rosy, and distinctive at 8.2/10.
Other notable Portfolio releases include Portfolio Imperial Oud (8.4/10) and Portfolio Euphoric Roots (8.2/10).
Hidden Gems Beyond the Main Lines
Al Haramain has plenty of standout fragrances outside their main collections:

Oudh 36 Nuit is a rich, complex oud fragrance rated 8.9/10. If you love oud but find most oud fragrances too harsh, this one is smooth and approachable.

Junoon Oud (8.8/10) is one of their highest scorers, though the name oversells the oud — it is grapefruit and woods over musk, amber and jasmine, finishing on patchouli and rosewood. Clean and woody rather than traditionally Arabian. Long lasting with strong projection.

Tanasuk (8.7/10) is rose, pomegranate and saffron over woods, amber and jasmine, landing on vanilla, brown sugar and musk. Sweet without tipping into dessert, and the saffron keeps it from being generic. Long lasting with strong projection.

Das Ziel Glanz (8.6/10) is an extrait but wears like a cologne — green tea and citrus up top, mate and white flowers in the middle, woods and oakmoss underneath. Dry and green, and the only thing here that suits real heat. Moderate longevity and projection.
The French Collection
Al Haramain's French Collection blends Middle Eastern richness with European sensibility. Noir French Collection (8.6/10), Blanche French Collection (8.3/10, inspired by PdM Delina), Destino French Collection (8.4/10), and Azure French Collection (8.2/10) are all solid performers.
What to Try First
If you are new to Al Haramain, here is where to start based on what you like:
If you like Baccarat Rouge 540: Amber Oud Rouge is the obvious pick.
If you like Creed Aventus: Start with L'Aventure Intense over the original L'Aventure — it is a better fragrance overall.
If you like Parfums de Marly: The Detour line has you covered. Detour Eco is the best of the bunch.
If you like traditional oud: Oudh 36 Nuit is their best oud-forward scent.
If you want something fresh: Portfolio Neroli Canvas or Amber Oud Carbon Edition.
The Bottom Line
Al Haramain is one of the most reliable fragrance houses in the affordable segment. With 139 fragrances in their catalog, not everything is a winner — but their hit rate is remarkably high. The Amber Oud line alone offers alternatives to some of the most expensive fragrances on the market, and the quality is consistently good. If you are building a collection on a budget, Al Haramain should be near the top of your list.
